Reduce Fertilizer Dust, Increase Workplace Sustainability

Workplace sustainability is always something to keep top of mind. We all want to make the best decisions regarding our workplace, and the people working there. Sometimes a better way comes along, and it’s time to reevaluate.

When it comes time to unload fertilizer, it can be a frustrating task. All work in the warehouse stops as typically dusty fertilizer is unloaded,: employees clear out due to safety concerns, you watch too much of your fertilizer go up in dust clouds, and you see it settle in all the wrong places—like the moving parts of your expensive equipment.

With the SUL4R-PLUS dust-free formula, those days are gone. Keep your employees working without the fear of inhaling something they shouldn’t or getting dust in their eyes, keep your machinery clean and functional, and keep your fertilizer out of the air and in the ground where it belongs.

Sustainability comes in many forms, both good for the planet and good for the people living on it. The unique patented product from SUL4R-PLUS does both. As an upcycled product it does good for the planet and its dust-free formula ensures it’s good for your people and for your workplace safety.

  • Improve Soil Health & Crop Yields With Low Salt Fertilizer: See the Field Trial Results

Fertilizer is an essential component of modern agriculture, providing the essential nutrients for plants to grow and thrive. However, not all fertilizers are created equal, and some can have negative impacts on soil and crop health. One factor that is often overlooked when selecting a fertilizer is its salt index, or the potential any fertilizer has to harm a crop. Excessive salt levels can lead to soil compaction, reduced water penetration, decreased plant growth, increase susceptibility to insects and disease, and reduced yields.

Sulfate All Season Long

The ultimate purpose of fertilizer is to provide essential nutrients to your crops. That’s why SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer is designed to make nutrients available to your crops when and where they are needed—not simply dump chemicals into the soil. With unique sulfate release timing qualities, you’ll see the investment you make in your crops by choosing the right fertilizer turn into increased yields at harvesting time.

There are two main concerns when it comes to the timing of nutrient release. The first is how easily the nutrients are able to move from the fertilizer into your crops. SUL4R-PLUS’ patented granules dissolve instantly in contact with water, so your crops don’t need to wait for access to the sulfate that will help them thrive.

The second important point is how long those nutrients are available. Some fertilizers start strong by releasing lots of nutrients all at once, but then when your crops need them throughout the growing season, they’re long gone. SUL4R-PLUS solves this problem by offering gradual release sulfate that matches the nutrient uptake curve of most crops, so essential sulfate is available when your growing crops actually need it.

As you can see from the graph below, the sulfate release of SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer closely matches the natural nutrient uptake of a corn crop. It also provides more sulfate throughout the season than alternatives.

If you’re going to invest in fertilizer for the benefit of your crops, make sure you choose a fertilizer like SUL4R-PLUS that follows through on delivering nutrients to your crops.

Nourish the Population and the Planet

When you work in agriculture, you see the importance of a stable and thriving local ecosystem first-hand, every day. You depend on the natural cycles of the earth for good yields and healthy crops. You also become aware of the immense threat climate change presents to our way of life.

As the largest industry on the planet, agriculture has a major role to play in reducing harmful emissions and keeping the environment healthy. When farmers and producers like us make the decision to choose eco-friendly options in our businesses, it has a major impact—much more significant than an individual person choosing to recycle at home. SUL4R-PLUS takes our responsibility to the environment seriously and is one of the most sustainable fertilizer choices you can make.

Our fertilizer is manufactured by recycling the bi-product from coal-fired power plantsWe make our fertilizer by capturing and recycling the emissions from coal-fired power plants. Using an existing source of sulfur rather than mining for new materials, we avoid the major damage to the planet caused by mining practices. One of the simplest and most essential rules of environmentalism is to use what you have whenever possible, and we’re proud to be one of the only companies that uses recycled raw materials in our fertilizer products.

In addition to sustainable sourcing, using these fossil fuel byproducts as one of our main materials keeps those by-products out of the atmosphere. Thanks to our intervention innovative process, the pollution created by these power plants is reduced and, what would be harmful chemicals filling the air, instead becomes nourishing fertilizer for crops.

Our patented process means that the chemicals chemistry in our fertilizer supports plant health and does not leach into soil and or water where it’s not needed. This reduces water contamination and waste as well as landfill waste. We believe water is one of the most precious substances on earth—out crops depend on clean water and so do we. That’s why we at SUL4R-PLUS have optimized our fertilizer to maximize the amount of value we provide with minimal waste or contamination.

If sustainability is important to you, then SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer is a choice you can feel good about. With proven increased yields, as well as many other positive impacts for your crops and soils, you can get reliable agricultural benefits in addition to making the right choice for our planet. It’s also a smart business decision. By choosing a sustainable fertilizer, your business partners will see on your ESG reports that you’re engaged in the current dialogue around climate change and that you’re thinking ahead to the future.

Reliable Increases for Less with SUL4R-PLUS

When so much about your work environment is unreliable, you need to be able to rely completely on the few factors you do control. One of the most influential of these factors is the fertilizer you choose. Your fertilizer investment can make or break a season—so don’t leave your yields up to chance.

Over the last few years, we tested our SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer in several field trials to recreate the results we had seen in the past. We knew that farmers and producers needed more than just a chance at improved yields, the improvement needed to be reliable.

A reliable increase in yields is just what we saw, proven in the numbers. In our trials, honey crisp apples saw a yield of 40.4 tons per acre—that’s an extra 8.2 tons per acre! These apples also had decreased incident of bitter pit, increased fruit brix, and increased fruit pressure making them sweeter and easier to store than usual. They also saw increases in leaf nutrient content, showing that the additional nutrients available in SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer are found throughout the plant. Sugar beets also enjoyed an increase in yield of 2.7 tons per acre with increased sugar content as well.

Almonds had an increase in yield of approx. 300 lbs per acre and an increase in nut size thanks to SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer. Potato and tomato both had an increase in marketable yield, with an additional increase in storage quality for the potatoes, thanks to a 10% decrease in Hollow Heart and an increase in nutrient levels for the tomatoes.

Honey Crisp Apples Almond Sugar Beet Potato Tomato
Increase Yield 40.4 ton per acre 300 lbs per acre 2.7 tons per acre 22 cwt per acre Increase in marketable yield
Increase in Marketable Yield – Decreased incident of bitter pit
– Increased fruit brix (sugar)
– Increase fruit
– Increase in nut size – Increased fruit quality (sugar content) – Increase in storage quality through 10% decrease – Increase of nutrient levels in developing fruit

With consistently reliable increases across all five types of crops, SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer once again proved its ability to produce higher yields no matter what nutrients your crops need. Its ability to support healthy growth in such a variety of crops is especially useful for farmers who have diversity in their fields. Save yourself the hassle of finding a new fertilizer catered to the needs of each crop and do your crops the favour of giving them SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer. They’re sure to appreciate the extra support.

How to Boost Wheat Yield with SUL4R-PLUS

Producers growing wheat across the country are being faced with a big decision for the upcoming growing season right now—which fertilizer to choose. With fertilizer prices increasing, it’s more important than ever that you make the right choice. That means giving your crop everything they need to thrive.

While many producers concern themselves primarily with nitrogen when growing wheat, sulfur is a limiting factor for both yield and grain quality. In fact, a lack of sulfur is often mistaken for nitrogen deficiencies. Even if you have more than enough nitrogen for a robust and healthy crop, you won’t see those results unless you also have enough sulfur. With SUL4R-PLUS’s patented fertilizer formula, you’ll be sure to have all the nutrients you need for a sustained and successful growing season. However, sulfur sources are not created equal. To meet your crops’ sulfur needs, our fertilizer releases the nutrient at steady rate throughout the growing season.

Thanks to quantified field trials and many years of application on crops around North America, you can trust that SUL4R-PLUS will release sulfur to match plant needs while also recognizing the boot in your yield. In field trials from 2017, SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer provided a nine bushel (9bu/ac) per acre gain, with a 2lb per bushel better weight and 1.09% better protein than control. These results have been replicated in a new, 2021 field trial. With eight more bushels per acre than AMS and 1.38% more grain protein. Wheat that was planted with a SUL4R-PLUS application has once again has shown yield advantages compared other options.

When You Neglect Calcium, You’re Neglecting Your Crops

You probably already know that calcium is an important factor in your crops’ health. It’s one of the most basic elements required for strong plants, and can help with:

  • Proper cell division and elongation
  • Proper cell wall development
  • Nitrate uptake and metabolism
  • Improved soil structure and biologicals
  • Protection from stress and disease

When we put this assumption to the test, we found that the key issue is not the presence of calcium, but the crops’ ability to use the calcium. Calcium is not mobile in the plant, so any new growth will need new calcium to grow strong and healthy—it cannot pull existing calcium from older parts of the plant.

The best way to deal with this issue is to use a fertilizer that can continue to release nutrients over time. When we created SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer, providing nutrients when and where they are needed was one of our primary goals. Now, with our patented formula, SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer can provide calcium to your crops throughout the growing season, resulting in stronger plants and higher yields.

Don’t Lose Young Crops to Salt Burn

Virtually all fertilizer materials are salts. And while fertilizer can make an enormous, positive difference in the quality of your crops, it can also sometimes cause salt burn.

Salt burn is what happens when the concentration of salt in the soil is so high, the water content of your crops’ cells flows out of the plant and into the soil. It’s a natural reaction to unbalanced salt levels and can unfortunately damage or even kill your plants. One way to avoid this problem is choosing a fertilizer with a low salt index number.

Damaged root with SUL4R-PLUS

Fertilizer salt index is a measurement of the salt concentration induced in a soil solution. Continuous fertilizing with high salt fertilizer products causes the soil solution to become salty, which extracts the available water from the soil solution, thus robbing roots of valuable moisture. Values range from 1 to 100, with 100 being pure sodium nitrate. The higher the number, the more likely a fertilizer is to burn your crops. This makes it easy to understand, since the number is directly tied to the potential for damage.

Seedlings are particularly vulnerable to salt burn. Since they have a higher water content than more mature plants, they are more likely to lose that essential water to soil with a high salt index. When you choose a fertilizer with a low salt index, your soil is better able to offer seedlings the minerals and nutrients they need to thrive without causing salt burn.

While you’re considering fertilizer for your fall fill, remember to check the salt index. SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer has a salt index number ranging from 5 to 8, which is unlikely to cause salt burn. This compares to a salt index number in the 70s and 80s for nitrogen- and ammonium-based fertilizers.

To learn more about salt index and salt burn, check out our Salt Index and Fertilizer Burn fact sheet.

These drone pictures show sulfur-deficient corn in a field trial near Franklin, IN. The producer applied strips at three different rates of SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer (left to right: 100 lb/a, 150 lb/a, and 200 lb/a). By increasing their sulfate rates during their season, they saw an increase in yield and overall crop health.

SUL4R-PLUS fertilizer provides a continuous source of plant-available sulfate and calcium throughout the growing season. Some other sources/forms of sulfate or sulfur become unavailable over time, or, in some cases, are never available to the crop at all. Having plant-available calcium and sulfate available throughout the growing season also means you will optimize the uptake of other critical nutrients, including nitrogen, phosphates, potassium, and magnesium.
